“TheyLoveThem creates a highly personal, intimate world, one that absolutely radiates with a sense of pure serenity, a true celebration of life.”

Artist Bio

TheyLoveThem is the artist name for Love Them (they/them), a singer/songwriter who moonlights as a music therapist during the day. Coming from humble beginnings in Port Jervis, New York, Love has settled in Philadelphia, PA, to connect with like-minded folk in the Greater Philadelphia area. Being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, Love seeks to spread compassion and love to people.

Having a background focused on vulnerability, self-reflexivity, and feeling your feelings, TheyLoveThem seamlessly crafts a world meant to inspire hope and emotional exploration in their listeners. TheyLoveThem follows in the tradition of many expressive singer/songwriters before them, including The Mountain Goats, John Craigie, and the Indigo Girls.

Love views the act of performance as a chance not only to sing and play their music in their signature anti-folk style - but a place to tell stories and actively engage the audience. To Them, a musical performance is a place to explore vulnerability for themself and in those who have gathered to watch.

Love says: “The most important thing to me is getting the audience out of their shell, and getting them out of their own way. Art is playing with color and visual perception, and music is playing with time and spatial perception. Often I see people flock to jam bands in order to space out, and those spaces are important — But what about being in THIS moment? Laughing, crying, and existing with me in THIS space. That’s all I want. I want to help people learn that being themselves, no matter how silly, and loving themselves no matter what are the driving forces of life.

Before their work as TheyLoveThem, Love was in a band called Travis Love Benson. Similarly, an anti-folk inspired three piece where Love headed as the singer/songwriter. Love’s claim to fame with TLB is the song “Draggin’ Me Down” which was featured on the NYC-based fictional podcast Welcome to Night Vale. While they have many fans from this song that they wrote in a sad moment with their best friend Yo! The Moon, Love stresses that life is about more than wishing you were dead. You hear this yearning for self-love even in this early work. Draggin’ Me Down planted the seeds that would eventually blossom into TheyLoveThem.
